The New York Eye Cancer Center maintains affiliations with New York City’s leading hospitals in the treatment of ocular cancer. Our patients have access to the highly trained staff, modern facilities, and advanced diagnostic technology offered by The New York Eye & Ear Infirmary of Mt. Sinai, and the Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital. Our affiliation with these hospitals allows Dr. Finger to maintain a network of relationships with the top physicians in New York and stay abreast of the latest developments in ophthalmology.
The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mt. Sinai
Dr. Finger joined the Department of Ophthalmology at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and established its first eye cancer service in 1989 and continues to teach Mount Sinai students, residents, fellows and attendings.
Within the framework of the Ocular Tumor Service, Dr. Finger taught ophthalmology residents, fellows, international visiting ophthalmologists and medical students how to diagnose ocular and orbital tumors. In addition, Dr. Finger gave a clinical lecture series and participated in the tumor board to supplement resident education.
Firsts at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mt. Sinai:
Dr. Finger started the first worldwide use of topical chemotherapy (mitomycin) eye-drops for conjunctival melanoma and primary acquired melanosis (PAM) with atypia at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary.
Dr. Finger obtained The New York Eye and Ear Infirmarys’ first radiation license to use radioactive eye-plaques for choroidal melanoma, retinoblastoma, choroidal hemangioma, and macular degeneration.
Dr. Finger brought The New York Eye and Ear Infirmarys’ first National Eye Institute and the National Institute of Health funded study (Collaborative Ocular Melanoma Study). This study brought The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary to work with 44 eye cancer centers throughout North America.
Clearly, Dr. Finger has been a physician, researcher and teacher at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mt. Sinai and thus has demonstrated his commitment to its patients.
