Dr. Finger realized that all eye cancer specialists must be able to define and communicate the severity of radiation damage within the eye. Only then can they compare their methods of diagnosis and treatment. Therefore, in his first published paper on laser treatment for radiation retinopathy he designed the first classification system for radiation retinal damage.
